Hammer Down ‘5K-ish’ returns for second year

By Brandi Makuski

If last year’s turnout was any indication, the second annual fun run sponsored by the Golden Sands Home Builder Association could be another glowing success.

The Hammer Down 5K-ish will be on May 14 at Lucke’s (formerly Backcountry Brewing), 3252 Mecca Dr. in Plover.

The 5K was the brainchild of Bruce Woyak, a GSHBA board member and co-owner of Central Door Solutions.

“I feel like GSHBA has been around for so many years, but the general public knows very little about our existence and the purpose of our operations,” Woyak said. “We also always look for new ways to raise additional funds to afford charitable projects that GSHBA provides its members’ resources for on a regular basis.”

Golden Sands Home Builder Association is comprised of local area builders, as well as associate members, who work closely together to provide the residents of the Central Wisconsin area with quality services, specific to new home construction as well as remodeling projects.

Over the past decade, GSHBA members have contributed their time, effort, and expertise to the construction of bandshell at Pacawa Park, roofing historic buildings in Heritage Park, remodeling of dugouts at Woyak Complex, remodeling projects at Women Shelter, Art in the Park, and Celebrate Plover.

The Hammer Down race will crown winners in five age brackets in men’s and women’s divisions.

For those who wish to participate but aren’t runners, the event also includes “Walk the Kegger” and “Hustle from Your Car to the Bar” events, or they can purchase an “I Paid not to Run” t-shirt.

Carrleen Hyer, the administrator for GSHBA, said the organization was “absolutely overwhelmed” by the interest in last year’s event, and they hope to see at last as many people show up again on May 14.
