Guns N’ Hoses gets third chance to best Mother Nature

Metro Wire Staff

Third time will hopefully be a charm for the local Guns N’ Hoses crew, as they gear up for a night of cops-versus-firefighters rivalry at the Golden Sands Speedway.

The two previous races between local law enforcement and the Stevens Point Fire Department were canceled due to bad weather.

The fifth annual Guns N’ Hoses fundraiser is a primary fundraiser for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight, the Portage Co. Veterans Relief Fund, and other veteran-related programs inside Portage Co.

In its first four years, Guns N’ Hoses fundraising efforts have brought in more than $137,000 for local veterans organizations through annual softball games between local law enforcement and firefighters.

Between t-shirt sales and 50/50 tickets and donation buckets, the group plans to raise $25,000, according to committee co-chair Traci Tauferner.

Race heats next week will include members from the Stevens Point Fire Dept., Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, and Stevens Point and Plover Police departments.

Gates open at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, with open ceremonies at 7:45. Golden Sands Speedway is located at 10992 Hwy. 54.
