Grace Marian Dakins, 99

Grace Marian Dakins, age 99, of Plover, Wis. died June 12, 2018, at Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center.

Grace was born August 1, 1918, to the late Jessie & Grace (Isherwood) Grant on the family homestead in Plover. She grew up there, attended the local schools and Emerson High School.

She married Carroll “Kelly” Dakins October 6, 1934, at the Buena Vista Parsonage and then settled in Plover. Carroll preceded her in death on January 11, 1983.

Grace worked at various restaurants in the Plover area, in addition to Hardware Mutual. She retired in 1982 after 24 years of service as a head cook from Roosevelt Grade School in Plover.

Grace will be remembered for her hospitality and holiday cooking. She was well-known for her hot apple pies, spaghetti hot dish, and raised doughnuts. Her energetic and helpful nature earned her the nickname “Granny Go-Go”.

She loved life and enjoyed square dancing, camping, and traveling throughout the U.S. with her husband. In her spare time, she also enjoyed helping to organize the Circle Eight Square Dance Club. In her later years, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and making quilts and ceramics for family and charities.

Her grandchild will always remember the handmade pajamas and her generous gifts. Grace also relished Sunday breakfasts with friends after church, and time spent with her family. She was active in the American Red Cross blood drives and at the Plover meal site. She was a member of the Plover United Methodist Church.

She is survived by children, LaVonne (Richard) Hanson and Karen (Paul) Pliska all of Plover; grandchildren, Debra (Tom) Kerchefski, Denise (Barney) Somers, Kim (Jeff) Brozik and Scott (Cara) Pliska; great-grandchildren Jamie (Becky), Heather (Ryan), Tom (Jennifer), Keli (Nate), Kali (Paul), Jordan (Sydney), Cathlynn, Connor, and Patti (Chad); great great-grandchildren, Kyle, Clay, Cole, Cooper, Ella, Ryder, Emily, Robert, and a baby on the way; and extend family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carroll Dakins; son, Darwin Dakins; daughter, Elaine Kruzitski; son-in-law, John Kruzitski, granddaughter, Kelly Pliska; brothers, Everett and Forest Grant; sister, Athol Jacklin; granddaughter, Dawn Sankey; and great-granddaughter, Tara Sankey.

A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, June 18 at The Springs, Plover United Methodist Church with Rev. Howard Hintzman presiding. A time visitation will precede at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A graveside service with burial will follow the ceremony in Plover Cemetery.
