Governor limits public gatherings to 10 people; bars, restaurants closed

Metro Wire Staff

COVID-19 is spreading across Wisconsin, and on Tuesday afternoon Gov. Tony Evers implemented a bad on public gatherings of 10 or more.

The ban becomes effective at 5 p.m. on March 17, according to a news release from Evers’ office. The order covers “all public and private mass gatherings” of more than 10 people. During small gatherings, people should still stay six feet away from each other, continue frequent handwashing practices, and use common sense social-distancing.

The order makes exceptions for transportation, educational institutions, child care, hotels, military, law enforcement, food pantries, hospitals, long-term care facilities, grocery and convenience stores, utility facilities, job centers, and courts.

Restaurants and bars can only offer take-out or delivery services. See full order and list of exemptions here. Schools will be closed for the duration of the public health emergency.
