Gladys Lila, 92

Gladys Lila, age 92, of Stevens Point passed away peacefully on July 14th, 2021 at Wellington Place in Whiting. She was born in Rosholt, Wis. to Anton and Veronica (Knitter) Sikorski.

Gladys graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Stevens Point. She married Clifford Lila on Nov. 4, 1950, at St Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Alban. Gladys was a faithful, long-standing member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church (Holy Spirit Parish) where she volunteered in many capacities. She was a member of the Rosary Society for 50 plus years and a Eucharistic Minister. She retired from Sentry Insurance in 1988 after 25 years of service.

Gladys was devoted to her family; she was a past 4-H leader and attended many of her sons and her grandson Jonathon’s sporting events. Gladys was an avid bowler and horseshoe pitcher, winning a Class B State horseshoe tournament. She was also involved in the Stevens Point Senior Olympics winning 1st place in Horseshoes in 1997 and in the years 2000 thru 2006.

She was always kind and generous providing help whenever it was needed. She was a caretaker to her husband, her mother, and her friends, Mary and Terry. Her family looked forward to the tradition of her chicken and kluski noodle soup every Christmas. A perfect morning for Gladys was attending mass with John or Mark and then going for pancakes with black cherry topping at the Olympic Restaurant with her church friends, Madalyn, Marie, Dar, Lou, Sandy, Joyce, and Jan.

Gladys is survived by her five sons, Richard (Jill) of Beaver Dam Wis., John (Pat) of Stevens Point, Mark of Stevens Point, Bob (Terry) of York, SC, and Tom (Jocelyn) of Belmont Cali.; her grandchildren, Jessica (Brandon) of LaFayette, Colo., Jonathon (Tia) of Stevens Point, and Naomi of Belmont Cali.; her great-grandson, Elias; her step-grandchildren, Katrina Rogers and Beau Liss (Shanna); and six step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ramona Nugent; brother-in-law, James Lila; cherished nephew, Tom Thompson and his wife Jane Bradley; and nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her brother, Ernest Sikorski; her sister Alice Thompson; sister-in-law Georgeanna Williamson; sister-in-law Alice Sikorski; sister-in-law, Barbara Lila; brother-in-law, George Nugent; nieces, Bonnie Clark and Genell Thomas; and nephews, Dennis Pilon and Danny Lila.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Gladys will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1709 Wyatt Ave. in Stevens Point. Rev. Steve Brice will officiate.

Friends and family may gather to share memories from 9:30-11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be held at Guardian Angel Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Wellington Place at Whiting, also, Wendy, Donna, Jenny, and Ellyn from Compassus Hospice Care and NP, Clarrisa Simonson for their exceptional care.

We would also like to thank Terry Moleski for all of the cards that she so faithfully sent to Gladie throughout the years.
