Gerald “Jerry” R. Ross, 90

Gerald “Jerry” R. Ross, 90, of Stevens Point, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Aug. 27, 2024.

Jerry was born on Jan. 27, 1934, in Medford, Wisconsin, to the late Arthur and Christine (née Bach) Ross. He grew up in the Medford area alongside his 10 siblings and graduated from Medford Area Senior High in 1953.

After high school, Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958, including a tour in Korea. During his military service, he was awarded the Expert Badge (Carbine) and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon returning home, he married Bonita “Bonnie” J. Anderson on Nov. 21, 1959. The couple began their life together farming in Abbotsford before moving to Stevens Point, where Jerry established a long career in roofing, siding, and construction. He also owned and managed multiple rental properties until the age of 86.

Jerry was known for his servant’s heart, always ready to help others. He cherished time spent with family and friends, often sharing stories and laughter. His adventurous spirit led him to discover a passion for camping and traveling. A lifelong learner, Jerry honed various skills, including woodworking and fixing things for himself and others. Above all, he was a faithful, kind, and playful man whose encouragement and wisdom will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his children, Michael (Sue) Ross of Eagle River, Alaska, Karla (Robert) Johns of Auburndale, Wisconsin, Kurt (Kay) Ross of Stevens Point, Gregory Ross of Stevens Point, and Melisa (Jeff) Johnson of St. Jacob, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, James Ross, Elizabeth Brackas, Nancy Gavin, and Karen Soto.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Eugene, Carroll, Patricia, Rita, Marie, and William.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at Holy Spirit Parish, 2151 Stanley St., Stevens Point. Rev. Todd Mlsna will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church and will conclude with full military honors. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024, at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery in Dorchester, Wisconsin.
