Gerald “Gary” Borski, 78

Gerald “Gary” Borski, 78, a proud Veteran of Stevens Point (Town of Hull), passed away Feb. 16, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Gary was born Sept. 14, 1947, in Stevens Point, son of the late Ed and Sylvia Borski. He grew up in the area, spending countless hours fishing and swimming in the family pond. He graduated from Pacelli High School in 1965.

Following high school, Gary bravely enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving a total of six years; two of those years were in active duty with a tour in Vietnam from March 1968 to February 1969. In October 2023, Gary was able to experience the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Gary was a devoted husband to his wife, Barbara (née Zalewski), and the two enjoyed a wonderful life together. To support his family, he worked hard as a truck driver for a paper manufacturing company. In their later years, Gary and Barbara were proud owners of a home in Sun City, Arizona, where they visited during Wisconsin’s cold winters. Gary would lovingly water Barbara’s plants that she insisted on bringing with them.

Gary enjoyed the outdoors, from fishing to camping to traveling. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle and taking care of his 1967 Malibu. Gary was also a jokester and loved to make others laugh. In fact, spending time with his family and friends was always a favorite pastime, no matter the activity. While he had a soft spot for his dogs, Nikki Noodle and Scooter, his love truly extended to everyone around him. He was proud to have so many “adopted” grandchildren. Gary was a kind and caring husband, father, friend, uncle and grandpa who will be missed by so many.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his son, Todd (Penny) Borski; and granddaughters, Kalaiya and Emily Borski. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Lorraine (Jim) Bretl; a brother-in-law, Rick (Susan) Zalewski; nephews, Travis (Rachel), Derek (Katy), and Aaron Zalewski and Craig and Keith (Sheena) Bretl; nieces, Tracy and Kerry Bretl, Kim (Dan) Hintz and Kelly (Ryan) Roettger; great-nieces Ellie and Lilly Roettger; and his adopted grandchildren, many of whom are great nieces and nephews who love their “Grandpa Gary” dearly, Damon, Alayna (Matt Miller), Axel, Nyx, Lennox, and Magnolia Zalewski.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Sylvia; his parents-in-law, Thomas and Angie Zalewski; and a step-son, Ryan Wallock.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Aspirus Wausau Hospital and Pam Rehabilitation for the care given to Gary over the last month.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2026, at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Full military honors will conclude the service.

Shuda Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family.
