Gerald A. Haiar, 81

Gerald A. Haiar, age 81, of Stevens Point, Wis., died on December 5, 2025.

Jerry was born on August 29, 1944, to the late Alvin and Viola Haiar, née Flammang, in Bellevue, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm and attended Marquette High School, graduating in 1962. Jerry also attended Iowa State University and Loras College, receiving a BS in psychology.

He was inducted into the USMC on February 9, 1968. During his time of service, Jerry earned a Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged after two years of service.

Jerry eventually relocated to Madison, Wis., where he had a diversified lineage of occupations prior to becoming employed with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Motor Vehicles. While at the DMV, he worked in several clerical positions. After years of dedication, Jerry retired in 2008.

While living in Fond du Lac, Wis., Jerry met Betty L. Haiar, née Nowak. He married her on June 23, 2011, and relocated to Stevens Point, Wis. Betty was his inspiration, his foundation, she was his everything. She passed away on April 20, 2024.

Jerry will be remembered for his curious and inquisitive nature. He had a kind heart and cared about social justice and living a good life. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed bird watching, studying world history, and was an avid reader. He relaxed by playing poker.

He is survived by his son, Guy Haiar; stepchildren, Terry Bach, Denise Hansen, Timothy Bach and Todd Bach; siblings, Debra Rolwes, Denise Jensen Kelley and Darla Jensen; Michael Jensen and extended family; longtime friends, Ruth Brill and Penny Brummer; and his dog, Cody.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Haiar; and sister, Carol Haiar.

A time of visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on January 7, 2026, at Boston Funeral Home, where you can light a candle and share a memory in his honor.
