Garrick “Gary” A. Monte, 70

Garrick “Gary” A. Monte, age 70, of Stevens Point, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018.

A Celebration of Life Service for Gary will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1919 Wyatt Ave, Stevens PointI. Friends and family may gather to share memories from 10-11:45 a.m. on Friday at the church. Shuda Funeral Services is assisting the family.

Gary was born in Milwaukee on September 10, 1948, the son of Gerald and Donabelle (Dresden) Monte. He attended local schools and graduated high school in Milwaukee. Gary married Linda
“Lynn” Turzinski on June 2, 1979, in Stevens Point.

Gary worked as a Roundhouse Foreman for Milwaukee Road railroad until a decline in his health. Gary was a talented artist. He enjoyed woodcarving and was a member of the Wisconsin River Woodcarvers. He did a carving of Christ on the cross for his church. He also enjoyed baking and decorating delicious cakes. He will be remembered for “The Monte Cake.” Another passion of his was bird watching. He always made sure the birds on their deck were fed. He had a warm spot in his heart for all of his grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his wife and best friend Lynn, three children: Lisa Potter, Steve Monte, and Nicole Monte-Howard; seven grandchildren: Alec and Mitchel Potter, Max Monte, Logan, Landon, Brianna, and Jaxon Howard. He is further survived by his brother Doug (Mary) Monte, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a kind, soft-spoken man who will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jim.
