STEVENS POINT — Area gardeners can get a jump on the 2026 growing season during Garden Dreams, a half-day educational program hosted by the Portage County Master Gardeners.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 28, at Mid-State Technical College, 1001 Center Point Drive, with a virtual option also available.
Janell Wehr, a horticulture outreach specialist for Marathon and Wood counties, will present “Ready, Set, Grow: Spring Preparation for Healthy Landscapes.” Her presentation will focus on practical steps for spring yard care, including weed prevention, soil management, pruning and sustainable landscaping practices.
Rob Zimmer will lead two additional sessions. “What’s New in Gardening for 2026” will highlight new plants, emerging garden trends, performance improvements and climate adaptability, while “Hosta Heaven” will focus on new and select hostas, along with tips for designing with the long-lived shade perennials.
Zimmer is an award-winning garden writer, photographer and radio host who has authored numerous nature and outdoor books and presented programs across Wisconsin.
The cost to attend is $15. Registration and additional information are available at www.portagecomastergardenerswi.com.
