Gamber-Johnson announces patent for new thermal tablet cover

By Patrick Lynn

Gamber-Johnson has been awarded a patent for a unique kind of tablet cover.

The Stevens Point-based company announced on June 5 that it was successfully awarded a U.S. Patent for a new kind of thermal tablet cover, which keeps the mobile device “warm and functioning” in outdoor dock and freezer environments.

The Gamber-Johnson thermal tablet cover is a unique solution for users in warehouses and distribution centers that store and move frozen foods—or utility companies that use vehicles in wet or freezing temperatures, a press release from the company reads in part.

“The Gamber-Johnson thermal cover is designed to keep tablets warm and dry in even the harshest environments utilizing a protective cover, thermal pad heater and a connected thermostat that can safely regulate the temperature of the device during use,” the press release said.

Tom O’Brien, regional sales manager and credited innovator of the product said the new solution would allow companies to better incorporate technology into their fleets where they previously could not.

“The thermal cover solution allows rugged and semi-rugged eight-inch and 10-inch tablets to be used in conditions where the device might see temperature extremes as a result of the cold,” O’Brien said. “The thermal cover provides a consistent heat source to the device by sensing the outside ambient temperature as well as the interior temperature of the cover.”

This is Gamber-Johnson’s 33rd U.S. Patent. According to Jason Lewandowski, vice president of engineering, the company has 63 patents throughout the world.

“At Gamber, we emphasize continuous innovation and look for ways to protect our intellectual property,” he said.

Gamber-Johnson thermal covers are designed to fit popular tablets from manufacturers like Getac, Panasonic, and Zebra. The invention also pairs easily with other Gamber-Johnson products, the press release said.

Gamber-Johnson supplies rugged mounting systems that safely secure mobile communication systems, computers, and other electronic equipment in fleet vehicles, public safety vehicles, forklifts, and other mobility applications. Their products are used by law enforcement, public safety, military, and warehouse fleets around the globe and are known for being rugged, reliable and responsive.

The company was founded in 1954 and located in the Stevens Point Business Park. For more information go to gamberjohnson.com.
