A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized to help the family of an 11-year-old boy who drowned in Lake Pacawa on Aug. 31.
Despite rescuers’ best efforts, Yim Moua died on Saturday while he was swimming during a large family gathering.
“He woke up that morning excited to attend a family picnic and play with his cousins at Lake Pacawa in Plover,” the page reads in part. “No one could have imagined that he would never return home again.”
The Metro Wire newsroom was contacted by a member of the family on Wednesday confirming the page’s authenticity.
Moua was looking forward to starting sixth grade and planned to play the trumpet in the school band. He loved football, and fishing, and was a fan of Spider-Man.
“Those of us who knew Yim remember him as a joyful, respectful, and caring kid. He liked to help his parents around the house and was interested in learning new skills. He was friendly to everyone he met and had such a kind soul,” the family said. “We are in disbelief that his life was cut so short.”
