The Stevens Point Area Public School District will offer free meals for kids beginning next week.

The summer food service program was launched in 2015 as a way to provide nutritious meals for children when free and reduced-lunches are often unavailable.

The program is sponsored by the USDA and the Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction and is available to any child 18 years old or younger.

Breakfast will be served at Jefferson, Madison, McKinley, and Kennedy elementary schools from 8:30-9:15 a.m. Lunches are available 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., except for McKinley Elementary, which begins serving lunch at 10:45 a.m.

Ben Franklin and P.J. Jacobs junior highs will serve breakfast from 8:30-9:15 a.m., and lunch from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.

SPASH will offer breakfast 7-9:30 a.m. Lunch will be served 11:15 a.m. until 1:15 p.m.

Meals at elementary and junior high schools will be available Monday through Thursday until July 19. SPASH will provide meals Monday through Friday, ending July 20.

No meals will be provided on July 4.
