STEVENS POINT — The Monroe House, a transitional living facility designed to provide low-cost, sober housing for individuals facing housing insecurity, is nearing completion, according to an announcement this week by its Board of Directors and Mayor Mike Wiza.

The facility, located at 1700 Monroe St., will accommodate up to 24 individuals as they work toward stable, permanent housing solutions. It was formerly known as the Turn of the Century rooming house.

“Monroe House will help address one facet of housing insecurity in our community,” said Wiza. “This project will not only provide stable housing but also connect individuals with resources to assist them in transitioning into permanent homes.”

As a community-driven, nonprofit organization, Monroe House will work to foster self-sufficiency among its residents by offering support, mentorship, and resources that enable individuals to build sustainable, independent lives, Wiza said.

The organization has launched a community call for assistance to finalize preparations before opening.

Current needs include monetary donations, furnishings such as bed frames and mattresses, non-perishable food, volunteer mentors, and labor for facility upgrades, including painting and plumbing. Additionally, Monroe House is seeking web designers to enhance its online presence.
