Florence Ann Kostuch, 84

Florence Ann Kostuch of Stevens Point died on June 14, 2022, after a short illness caused by cancer.

Florence was born on February 12, 1938, in Stevens Point. She was the youngest daughter of Florian and Josephine (Adamski) Krutza. She attended St. Peter’s grade school and graduated from Maria High School in 1956.

Her father was sheriff or deputy sheriff of Portage County from 1941 to 1956. Florence’s family lived in the front of the county jail building while her father was sheriff. At that time there were three other sworn officers in the Portage County Sheriff’s office and no other staff. So Florence and her sisters answered the phone when the deputies were out and they relayed messages to the deputies who drove personal cars with no radios by calling bars and stores around the county to leave messages.

After high school, Florence worked at Wisconsin Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator.
She married Duane Kostuch at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in February 1961. She left her job at the birth of her children to be a full-time mother. She was active in volunteer work at St. Stanislaus Grade School and was a Cub Scout Den Mother.

She returned to the workforce in 1976 when she joined the two other people at the Point Soo Credit Union (now Simplicity Credit Union). She was an officer when she retired from the then Point Plus Credit Union in 2001.

Florence loved to travel. After she retired she traveled widely around the world. Unfortunately, she was unable to do this with her husband as he died in 2004. On her last trip in 2019, she was able to visit her final five states in the Northeast making her able to say she’d been to all 50 states.

Florence is survived by her children, Keith Kostuch (Erna) of Middleton, Wis., and Kurt Kostuch (Deb) of Junction City, and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her older sister Ramona Simons of Stevens Point and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Duane, her parents, and her oldest sister Lorraine Brilowski.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests your prayers for the soul of Florence and for the deceased members of the Kostuch, Krutza, and Adamski families. Any donations can be made to Aspirus Hospice Services in memory of Florence.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Florence will be held Thursday, June 23 at St. Stanislaus Church of the Holy Spirit Parish, 838 Fremont Street in Stevens Point. Rev. Steve Brice will offer the Mass. Friends are invited to greet one another and the family at 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall.

A Rosary will be held in the Church at 1030 a.m. followed by the funeral mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery.
