Five board members from Boys & Girls Club honored at state level

By Patrick Lynn

Five board members from the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County received state-level recognition for their exceptional community service.

At the Boys & Girls Club Wisconsin Area Council Conference on Nov. 13, Patty Noel was inducted into the Boys & Girls Club of Wisconsin’s Hall of Fame, joining a group of 30 individuals acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to youth support in Wisconsin.

Alongside her husband, John Noel, Patty played a pivotal role in bringing a Boys & Girls Club to Portage County. Serving as founding board members for the past 21 years, the couple has been extensively involved. Patty volunteered hands-on by leading cooking classes, taking on the role of board president, co-chairing a capital campaign committee, and devoting numerous hours to organizing Club events.

Dr. Timmy Cooper and Timothy Gottlieb both received The Extra Mile award, recognizing their leadership in significant Club projects over the past year.

Dr. Timmy Cooper, a board member for eight years, is a local dentist who, along with his wife, London, owns a dental practice. Dr. Cooper volunteers his time for initial exams at the Delta Dental Smile Club within the Boys & Girls Club’s Berard Center. Additionally, he has dedicated extensive hours to the Club’s Building Committee, participating in statewide Club tours and engaging in meetings with local authorities and business leaders.

Timothy Gottlieb, a board member for six years, initially connected with the Club as a volunteer on the Finance/HR Committee. His tenure led him to become President until his term concludes in March 2024. Tim has overseen various large projects and represented the Club at numerous social functions, media interviews, and meetings with city officials. Despite his quiet demeanor, he has exhibited significant leadership during board meetings.

Patty Check was honored with the High Caliber award, recognizing her impactful engagement on the board within two years of joining.

Patty’s involvement with the Club began when her children enrolled in the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County – Rosholt Extension. She actively participates in the Rosholt Extension Steering Committee, aiding in fundraising efforts and event organization. Over the past five years, Patty’s contributions have significantly enhanced fundraising for Rosholt youth. After joining the Board of Directors, she continued her involvement, volunteering for events and supporting the Rosholt Club where her children attend after school.

Dr. Sam Dinga received recognition for his tenure as the Wisconsin Area Council Chairperson, a role where he served for two years and will now transition to Past Chair. The Wisconsin Area Council comprises Board Volunteers from various Boys & Girls Clubs in Wisconsin, advocating for local Clubs, providing board education, and representing a unified voice to Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
