Feliksa Theresa (Kusy) Kosiec
Feliksa Theresa (Kusy) Kosiec went to our Lord and her eternal home on April 24, 2021.
She was born on February 8, 1934, on a farm in a small village outside of Lublin, Poland. During the Second World War, her family was taken from their farm and brought to Germany for the duration of the war. After the war, the family decided to migrate to the United States in 1951. The long voyage to the states took her to the port of New Orleans and eventually onto a plantation in Louisiana.
The family found their way up to Chicago in 1952 where she found a job in a factory at age 18. A few months later at a local dance, she met her future husband, Leon, who fell in love with her at first sight. It took some convincing and persistent courting on his part, but they married six months later on June 6, 1953.
Their first child, a girl, came a year later in 1954, followed by their second, a boy, exactly two years later to the date in 1956. At this time, they looked at getting back to the soil and purchased a farm on County Road A in Rosholt, Wis. Their third child, a boy, was born in 1958 just prior to moving to Wisconsin.
Trying to raise three young children by herself and with Leon traveling to Chicago each week for his job, it was difficult to stay in Wisconsin, so they moved to the Western Chicago Suburbs. Less than two years after their third child, their fourth, a girl, was born in 1960. Four years later in 1964, they had their fifth and final child, a boy. They remained in the suburbs of Chicago until 1967 when they moved for less than a year down to Alabama for Leon’s job. Following the short southern stay, the family moved back to the South West Suburbs of Chicago where they stayed until their retirement in 1987.
Upon retirement, Feliksa and Leon moved back to the farm in Rosholt, where they began to remodel the home and plant their garden. Summers meant weekly church picnics and dancing. In 2010 Leon began to show signs of dementia and on December 12, 2012, passed away. After that Feliksa decided to split her time between Summers in Wisconsin and Winters in Chicago with her eldest daughter.
Her love for the outdoors and gardening kept her going, but she developed kidney disease in 2016 and was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer in the spring of 2021. On April 24, 2021, Jesus called her home to be with her husband of 59 years and to tend the gardens in heaven.
Feliksa is survived by her children Mary Wolf (Kenny Arellano), Chicago; Leon (Cindy) Kosiec, Plover; Richard (Rosemary) Kosiec, Rosholt; Bernadette (Chris) Saad, Wayne, Ill.; Michael Kosiec, Rosholt; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jan and Maria, her husband of 59 years Leon, two brothers Fred and Joseph, and a sister-in-law Helen.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 30, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Queen of All Saints Basilica in Chicago. Another Mass will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021, at 10 a.m. at St Adalbert Church in Rosholt with Rev. Thomas Nirappel officiating, followed by burial in the parish cemetery.
