Fall hunter safety class returns to Portage County Sheriff’s Office

PORTAGE COUNTY — The Portage County Sheriff’s Office will offer an in-person hunter safety class this September for anyone age 11 and older.

The classroom portion of the course will be held at the sheriff’s office training room, 1500 Strongs Ave., on Sept. 8, 9, 11, and 15. Each class runs from 4 to 7 p.m.

A required field day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Dewey Shooting Range.

The course fee is $10, and the curriculum is geared toward students ages 11 to 12 and up. Space is limited.

Registration is required through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Go Wild website at gowild.wi.gov. Students must register using their unique DNR customer ID number. Those without an ID must first create an account online.
