Elaine J. Blaskowski, 80
Elaine J. Blaskowski, of Stevens Point, passed away at home on February 27, 2024, at the age of 80.
Elaine was born May 21, 1943, in Stevens Point, the daughter of Otto and Esther (née Garski) Wanta. She grew up in the area where she attended local schools, and graduated in 1961 from Maria High School.
Shortly after high school, on September 21, 1963, Elaine married David Blaskowski at St. Peter Catholic Church in Stevens Point. The two welcomed three beautiful children to their family. In addition to being a loving wife and doting mother, Elaine made sure to keep her faith strong, too.
She was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church where she was active with the Rosary Society and the Christian Women’s Society. Furthermore, she dedicated over a decade to teaching CCD classes to area children. Elaine was also active in the community as a member of the women’s PLAV and being involved in local 4-H clubs.
For 25 years, she also worked at JCPenney, and retired in 2004. In 2005, she was diagnosed with dementia, but she continued to live a full life for many years before it progressed to Alzheimer’s disease.
Elaine found great joy in listening to music; her favorite genre being polka. She loved to attend polka festivals whenever she could, and she and David traveled frequently for enjoyment. They also spent hours entertaining residents at the local nursing homes with him playing the concertina and her singing along.
While Elaine will be remembered for many things, including her amazing cooking skills, she will ultimately be remembered as a kind hearted and generous soul with a great sense of humor.
Elaine is survived by her husband, David; her children, Paul (Dawn), Brian (Kris), and Carrie (Bryan) Blaskowski; her grandchildren, Ryan Betker, Michael (Sara) Blaskowski, and Kaila (Patrick) Blaskowski; and her great-grandchildren, Kynlee and Jaxtyn Blaskowski. She is further survived by her sister, Virginia Wayerski.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Esther Wanta; her brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Gladys Wanta; and her brother-in-law, Arnold Wayerski.
The family would like to thank the many wonderful members of the nursing staff of Compassus Hospice and Chaplain Mark Lewis for their excellent support and care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 203 Casimir Road, Stevens Point. Rev. John Potaczek will officiate. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories on Saturday at the church from 9-11 a.m., with a General Rosary at 11. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
