EGOCON returns to Plover for annual sci-fi, fantasy convention

PLOVER — EGOCON: The Next reGeneration will return to Plover this month, bringing a day of science fiction, fantasy, gaming, collectibles and guest presentations to the Springville Sports Barn.

The annual nonprofit convention will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Springville Sports Barn, 2811 Plover Springs Road.

Organizers describe EGOCON: TNG as a low-cost, one-day gathering for fans of science fiction and fantasy, with board and card games, vendors, special guests and discussions.

This year’s guests include Maggie Thompson, a longtime comics industry figure and former editor of Comic Buyer’s Guide; paranormal investigators Steven Polansky and his wife; artist and author Dave Duca; and artist Peggy McDowell.

Duca will give a presentation on television and film awards, while McDowell will speak about her career and work as an artist.

The convention will also include the 37th annual NEWFOD Charity Auction, with proceeds benefiting St. Paul’s Food Pantry, Stevens Point, and the Wisconsin Public Television network.

Vendors are expected to offer handmade items, collectibles, books, trading cards, glassware and other science fiction, fantasy and pop culture merchandise.

EGOCON organizers said the event is intended as a casual gathering for longtime fans as well as newcomers interested in science fiction, fantasy and gaming.
