Downtown Wine Walk to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary

STEVENS POINT — Downtown Stevens Point will raise a glass to America’s 250th birthday next month with its annual Wine Walk, bringing an evening of wine tastings, shopping and live music to the city’s historic core.
The event, themed “250 Years • 25 Cheers,” is set for Friday, Aug. 14, from 4 to 8 p.m., with registration beginning at 3 p.m. on the Mathias Mitchell Public Square.
Participants will visit 25 downtown businesses, each offering wine selections from across the United States paired with food samples, shopping opportunities and in-store experiences. Organizers say the event is designed to showcase local boutiques, restaurants and specialty shops while giving attendees a chance to explore downtown in a festive setting.
The evening will also feature live music from Mia Brown and the Get Down, performing from 6 to 9 p.m. on the square.
“This annual event brings wine lovers to our historic and beautiful downtown each year,” said Kris Carne, events coordinator for Stevens Point Downtown. “Guests enjoy strolling through our unique businesses, shopping along the way, tasting delicious food paired with wines from across America, and discovering some pretty incredible photo opportunities.”
Carne said it’s common to see groups embrace the theme with matching shirts and costumes, and many attendees return year after year.
In recognition of the nation’s semiquincentennial, this year’s theme encourages participants to celebrate both American history and the local businesses that help define downtown Stevens Point.
