Downhill skiing nixed at Standing Rocks, but other winter sports are a go

By Patrick Lynn

The Portage Co. Parks Department will not open the downhill skiing area this winter.

But the park will open its new Behnke Olson Outdoor Recreation Center this year, according to a news release from County Park Director Ryan Rose. New sports for the 2020 season include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and winter fat tire snow biking, he said.

The recreation area expands the park’s offerings with four additional miles of snow biking trails, and an additional loop of lighted cross-country skiing.

Standing Rocks is located about seven miles east of Plover off Hwy. B. Daily and seasonal passes are available for purchase on the county parks website.
