Dorothy B. Check, 90

Dorothy B. Check, 90, of Plover, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2024, at Whispering Pines in Plover.

Dorothy was born on Jan. 22, 1938, in Milladore, Wis., to the late Ignatius and Anna (née Pongratz) Minch. She grew up in the area and graduated from PJ Jacobs High School.

On Oct. 6, 1956, Dorothy married Ralph Check at Wenceslaus Catholic Church. The couple had four sons: Richard, Ronald, Robert, and Ryan. Dorothy worked as a teacher’s aide for many years, caring for special needs children. After retiring, she and Ralph traveled extensively and spent winters in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Dorothy cherished her family and friends, enjoying time with her grandchildren and her sisters on “Sister Day.” She also enjoyed trips to the casino with her friends.

Survivors include her son, Richard (Doreen) Check; granddaughters, Jen (Jesse) Flugaur and Tracey Jacks; great-grandchildren, Brady and Addy Flugaur, and Jamie Jacks; sisters, Mary Brillowski, Joan (Ralph) Woyak, Kathleen Kostuch, Grace David, and Linda Minch; and brothers, Ronald (Grace) Minch and Francis Minch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; three sons, Ronald, Robert, and Ryan; parents, Ignatius and Anna; sisters, Helen Seubert and Betty (Mike) Wondzell; infant brother, Richard Joseph Minch; brothers-in-law, Joseph Brillowski and Robert Kostuch; and sister-in-law, Donna Minch.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Lodge at Whispering Pines, where Dorothy lived for the past two-and-a-half years and Interim Healthcare Hospice for their care and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1709 Wyatt Ave., Stevens Point. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A private family burial will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery.
