Donald Zivney, 68

Donald Zivney, age 68, of Stevens Point died on December 3, 2021, surrounded by loved ones at St. Micheal’s Aspirus Hospital.

Don was born on June 24, 1953, to Henry and Eleanor (Mallek) Zivney. He was born with Cerebral Palsy but it didn’t define his life. He attended the closest school that would take him, in Appleton, graduating in 1971. He was well-known and loved in his hometown of Milladore, Wis., and attended polka dances and festivals all over the state.

He worked at Community Industries and learned skills he would need to live independently. After his mom died in 1982, he began to use those independent living skills with the help of many caregivers through the years.

With his crazy sense of humor and his love of adventure, he became a fast and unforgettable friend to many people. His positive attitude and his ability to overcome obstacles was an inspiration to many. When he wasn’t cranking the polkas, he was a true blue Beatles fan, loved the “oldies” and never missed the UWSP Trivia Contest.

He is survived by his niece Gayle (Rick) Phillip, Stevens Point, nephew Steve (Marcia) Zivney, Milladore, and their families. He is also survived by his special cousins Kim and Jackie and many other cousins. He was blessed with dedicated caregivers, especially, Peggy Wierzba, Kojak Wierzba, CJ, and Ahliyana, Tammy, and Jennifer. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marvin and Dale, and infant sister, Gail.

Besides his dedicated caregivers, Don was fortunate to have his niece Gayle Phillip provide ongoing physical and emotional care for him. She and her husband Rick made sure he was included in all family gatherings and recreational adventures.

If you told Don he couldn’t do something because of his disability, he would prove you wrong and do it anyway.

A Celebration of Life will be held in February 2022.
