Donald “Don” A. Guth, 79

Donald “Don” A. Guth of Stevens Point passed away unexpectedly at home on December 29, 2022, at the age of 79.

Don was born June 24, 1943, in Stevens Point, to Frank and Angeline (née Glodowski) Guth. He grew up in the area and attended local schools, graduating from Pacelli High School in 1961. While in high school, he attended a friend’s birthday party, where he met Pat Isherwood. The two began as friends but soon found their relationship to be more. On July 11, 1964, Don and Pat were married and would spend the next 58 years building a life together.

Following high school, Don attended UW-Stout where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering and design. From there, he began working for Amwood Homes as a builder. He eventually left to work for Ortega in Stoughton, Wis., for 15 years, before deciding to start his own company. With the support of his wife, Pat, he made that leap and successfully owned and operated Don’s Home Repair until his retirement in 2010.

Don’s talents in his career carried over into his home life, often tinkering around their house for nearly 50 years. He seemed to always be on the move, busy with a project. He left nothing to chance and thought through each one, such as adding on a greenhouse and workshop with such detail and functionality. He also enjoyed nature and wildlife, with hobbies such as camping, hunting, fishing trips to Alaska and Canada, and environmental sustainability. In recent years, he especially enjoyed watching the deer, turkeys, and songbirds in their own yard.

In his younger years, he enjoyed working and playing on the family farm with his cousin/”blood brother” Tom Guth, and Cathy. Don also gave back to the community he lived in with nearly two decades of volunteering, donating his time and passion to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as the scoutmaster, and serving in leadership with Kiwanis.

Don is lovingly survived by his wife, Pat, his daughter, Michele (Joel) Mandel, his son Michael Guth, three grandchildren; Alex (Winne) Mandel, Nicholas Mandel, and Lydia Guth; and one great-grandson, Theodore Mandel. He is further survived by his brother, DeLloyd (Katie) Guth, a niece, Martha (Ricardo Lugo) Guth, a nephew, Geoffrey Guth, a great-nephew, Sebastian, and many more family members and close friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Angeline Guth.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Portage County and Rosholt area EMTs and First Responders—thank you so much for your dedication, service, and compassion during a difficult time; not only for us but for everyone you serve.

A Celebration of Life to honor Don will be held on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, from 9-11 a.m. at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point.
