Disc golfers to compete at Standing Rocks, Yulga Sept. 26-27

PORTAGE COUNTY — Disc golfers from across the region will descend on Portage County later this month for the Great Glacial Washout VI, a two-day tournament featuring competition at Standing Rocks County Park in the town of Stockton and Yulga Disc Golf Course in the town of Hull.

The Professional Disc Golf Association tournament will be held Sept. 26-27, with both professional and amateur players competing.

The first round tees off at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at both Standing Rocks and Yulga. Competition continues through Sunday, with awards and a raffle drawing scheduled for 1 p.m. at Standing Rocks.

Spectators are welcome, and vendors selling disc golf merchandise and equipment will be on site.

Standing Rocks has developed a reputation well beyond Portage County. Its courses are ranked among the best in Wisconsin and have placed among the top 50 disc golf destinations worldwide by UDisc.

The original course at Standing Rocks was designed by Randy Schukar in 1999. Its rolling terrain and wooded setting have since made the park a destination for competitive disc golfers and the site of several major tournaments.

The Portage County Parks Department credited volunteers and county and municipal parks workers with helping develop and maintain the courses over the years.

Registration ranges from $60 to $90 and remains open through Sept. 24.
