By Patrick Lynn

A Stevens Point Marine has been gifted a Cadillac.

Larry Woyak was gifted a fully refurbished 2000 Cadillac Catera on Jan. 14 by Schumann Heink Disabled American Veterans Chapter 30 through their “Helping Heroes Caddy” project.

According to DAV Chapter 30 Commander Frank Woiak, the project goal to provide a vehicle to a deserving Portage County military veteran began in 2022 with the acquisition of the “Caddy” and a months-long restoration process.

Woyak is a disabled Marine Corps veteran who served in Japan and Korea from 1984-1988 with the 1st Battalion – 8th Marines.

“Many thanks to everyone who made this happen for me,” Woyak said in a news release from the DAV. “Having my own transportation gives me the independence and help I need to get to my doctor appointments, church, the grocery store.”

Multiple volunteers and donors contributed to the project, according to the news release, including Automotive Supply Co. in Waupaca; Chris’ Towing LLC; Check’s Muffler Center; Cousineau Auto Parts in Weston; Pat’s Body Shop; Schierl Tire and Service; Larry Huff and Joe Woyak.
