A Dewey home has been deemed a total loss after catching fire last Saturday night.

When firefighters from Dewey arrived shortly after 11 p.m., the home at 3026 County Hwy. Y was fully engulfed in flames and soon collapsed, said Dewey Fire Captain Brian Lepper.

It took about 30 minutes for firefighters to knock down the fire, Lepper said. The cause is still under investigation.

Crews were able to save a nearby garage, but pets inside the home were lost, he added.

Lepper added one firefighter was treated for minor injuries during the call. The scene was cleared shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday.

The American Red Cross was also on hand to assist the homeowner. It was not immediately known how many people were displaced.

Fire crews from Hull, Park Ridge and Stockton, along with the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, also responded to the scene.
