Local law enforcement had a heavy presence Saturday night on the city’s northeast side.

The Stevens Point-Plover Special Response Team (SRT), also commonly known as SWAT, was on standby on Dec. 10 as Stevens Point police executed a warrant at 1430 Torun Rd. in Stevens Point.

Portage Co. deputies were also staged at the entry of Four Seasons Mobile Home Community on Saturday evening. Neighbors say they saw armed officers enter a home in the area.

Assistant Police Chief Dana Williams on Sunday said the heavy response was called for as officers had information that a person wanted in connection with a felony was in the home.

Officers located the wanted person’s vehicle earlier in the day, which led them to the Torun Rd. home.

Williams said officers did not locate the person at the home, and while she declined to provide the nature of the investigation, she said it was ongoing.

Williams said anyone with information on this or any investigation can submit tips by calling the department’s non-emergency number at 715-346-1500, or via the P3 app from a smartphone. Anyone experiencing or witnessing an emergency should continue to call 911.
