Detour on Bus. 51 in Whiting begins Tuesday

Metro Wire Staff

Motorists using Bus. 51 in Whiting will need to use a detour beginning on Tuesday.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will close a stretch of Bus. 51 between County Hwy. HH and Minnesota Ave. in Whiting beginning at 9 a.m. on Sept. 17.

The road is expected to reopen the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 23. A signed detour will be installed directing motorists to use County Hwy. HH and Nebel St.

Access to the boat landing will be permitted from the north side of McDill Pond, and pedestrians will be able to use the sidewalk on the east side of Bus. 51 within the closure.

Crews will be pouring concrete as part of the second phase of bridge reconstruction. Improvements to the bridge will:

  • Improve safety for the traveling public and construction workers during the bridge deck pour.
  • Help protect the bridge deck from cracking that could be caused by vibrations from adjacent traffic on the previously-constructed portion of the bridge.
  • Increase the overall quality and longevity of the bridge deck
