Delores Miller, 86

Delores Miller, of Stevens Point, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, Wis., at the age of 86.

Delores was born on March 4, 1937 in the Town of Carson at her family home, to Leo and Agnes (née Bikowski) Slowinski. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School as a member of the class of 1955. After graduation, she began work at Hardware Mutual doing office work before moving on to becoming a dry cleaner for Point Cleaners, One Hour Martinizing and Dunrite. She worked as a dry cleaning presser for over 25 years. Delores married Norbert J. Miller on October 12, 1957 at St. Bartholomew’s church in Mill Creek.

Delores’ hobbies included gardening; she had a love of flowers and looked forward to the arrival of every summer, when she could get her flowers planted around her house. Another hobby was cooking as she was an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking for her family. There was always something on the table to eat whether it was a full meal or delicious snacks; visitors never left the house hungry.

While Delores complained about being a baseball and football season widow, making her complaints known throughout the game, her family knew how much she enjoyed those sports deep down, whether it was the Badgers, Packers, or Brewers. Every year, she made an annual trip with her family to Miller Park or American Family Field for a Brewer game; somehow always picking the game that went into extra innings.

Above all, her greatest, most recent love was her grandchildren and great grandchildren; she carried pictures of them around with her; you couldn’t get away from her without looking at her pictures of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Delores is survived by her husband of 65 years, Norbert; her children, Kenneth Miller, Karen (Jeff) Small, Kim (Tom) Bannach, and Kristie (Todd) Strebig; her grandchildren, Niki (Thomas) Trumble, Cally (Ryan) Gordon, Dr. Alissa (Aaron) Larson, Taylor Gordon, and Attorney Scott (Veronica) Small; and her great-grandchildren, Rian, Cane, and Cole Trumble and Isla Mae Larson. She is further survived by her siblings, Deloyd (Shirley) Slowinski, Leona Dekarske, Barbara (Joe) Rybicki, Robert (Lucy) Slowinski, and Elaine (Lenny) Przybelski; a sister-in-law, June Slowinski; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Delores was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Kevin John Miller; a sister, Lorraine Wiernik; a brother, Greg Slowinski; and brothers-in-law, Jim Dekarske and David Wiernik.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests making a donation to the Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools.

The family would like to give a special thank you to staff at Howard Young Medical Center ICU for the care given to Delores and her family during a difficult time. The simple act of being there to comfort us all was appreciated more than words can express.

In honor of Delores, from her children, “May your hair always be properly brushed and sprayed; until we meet again.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1709 Wyatt Ave., Stevens Point. The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday morning at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Rev. Jeffrey Hennes will officiate the service. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Stevens Point.
