David J. Shafranski, 90

David J. Shafranski, 90, entered peacefully into his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, while residing at Wellington Place in Whiting.

He was born Nov. 7, 1935. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys (Kluck) Shafranski; son Brian Shafranski; granddaughter Allie Ann Krolow; his parents, Adam and Theresa (Rinka) Shafranski; and siblings Don, Greg, Cliff, Roy, Cathy Stelchek, Carol Kubisiak and Joan Ross.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dan and Julie (Shafranski) Krolow, of Wittenberg; four grandchildren, Travis (Katie) Shafranski, Justine Borenz, Kolton Krolow and Kiara Krolow; four great-grandchildren, Ezra, Jacob, John and Kara; and sister Mary Ann Weisbrod.

David worked at Consolidated Papers’ Stevens Point Division for 38 years. During his time there, he invented a part for a paper machine that saved Consolidated millions of dollars. After retiring from the paper industry, Dave worked for the Stevens Point Parks and Recreation Department for 10 years.

He loved working on old car restoration, his favorite being convertibles; painting on canvas (self-taught); fishing; camping; and hunting. Those who knew Dave can testify that he was an incredible fisherman.

Dave and his wife, Gladys, were married Oct. 31, 1959, and were involved with their church parish, St. Stanislaus, helping to run winter carnivals and special events. Dave taught CCD for 22 years, ushered, read and served Communion. He also was a troop leader for the Boy Scouts for three years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Dave served in the Marine Corps Infantry Division for three years. He loved his country and serving it. He held great esteem for all veterans and active men and women.

Dave found immense joy in spending time with his four grandchildren, whether it was fishing with them, creating box mazes for them to crawl around in, vacationing or just sitting and talking.

David had tribulations along the way, as all of us do, but a quote directly from him was, “I never suffered pain with any surgery or sickness. I will be forever grateful to God for that.”

Rest in peace, Dave (Dad), with Gladys, Brian, Allie and many family members. You made it home!

A life remembrance will be held at Shuda Funeral Home, 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point, on Sunday, July 26, from 3-6 p.m., with military honors at 6 p.m.
