David G. Hendrix Golla, 83

David G. Hendrix Golla, 83, of Stevens Point, died peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

He was born on March 3, 1941, in Oakland, Cali., and moved to Wisconsin with his mother and stepfather soon afterward. He was the son of Oretha (née Hendrix) Golla and the stepson of Edwin Golla. He was raised in Stevens Point.

David attended local schools and married Joan Olds on Aug. 4, 1962, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stevens Point. He worked at the Whiting paper mill for several years before joining the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, where he rose to the position of electrical service estimator, eventually retiring in 2001.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, and camping. Joan preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 2012, shortly after they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. David was an avid amateur (HAM) radio enthusiast and, in his later years, enjoyed traveling around the country with his good friend Barbara Towey.

David is survived by his daughters, Julie (David) Benson of Arkansas and Carla (Tom) Betka of Stevens Point; four grandchildren, Christopher (Kerri Jo) Sweeney, Joshua Sweeney, Megan (Kyle) Vogt, and Jackson (Micaela) Benson; and three great-grandchildren, Shawn Sweeney, Joshua Sweeney, and Natalee Sweeney. He is also survived by his siblings, Alvin (Liz) Golla, Evelyn (Ray) Danczyk, Francis (Eddie) Hawro, Esther (Everett) Woyak, Stanley (Mary) Golla, and Linda (Jerry) Van Hammond. He was preceded in death by his wife, mother, and stepfather.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Plover, where David enjoyed his stay over the past year, interacting with staff and participating in social activities. They also thank the staff of Wausau Manor for their care during the final days of David’s life, and the physicians and staff of the DaVita Stevens Point Dialysis facility, where he received care in recent years. Additionally, they express gratitude to the staff of the Marshfield and Aspirus hospital and clinic systems for their care and compassion during David’s medical journey.

A Mass of Christian Burial for David will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church, 3200 Plover Road, Plover, with the Rev. Arturo Vigueras officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Pisarski Community Funeral Home, 2911 Plover Road, Plover, with a parish rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church on Friday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
