STEVENS POINT – The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra will celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend with a performance of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Sentry Theater.
The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., marks the third event in the CWSO’s 76th season and its first performance of 2025. The program features Louise Farrenc’s “Overture No. 1,” Johannes Brahms’ “Variations on a Theme by Haydn,” and the first movement of Edvard Grieg’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor.” The evening will conclude with Beethoven’s iconic “Symphony No. 5.”
The concert will also spotlight Megan Yang, the Jenkins Family Young Artist 2024 Concerto Competition winner, who will perform the first movement of Grieg’s piano concerto. Yang has studied piano for over 12 years with her father, Tom Yang, as her primary teacher. She has earned accolades in multiple state competitions, including recognition at the Wisconsin School Music Association District Auditions and as a finalist for the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition.
Yang is also a skilled violinist, participating in the Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Program since 2019, and is active in athletics as a member of the Iola Winter Sports Club ski team and her high school track team.
Tickets for the concert are available online at cwso.org, by phone at 715-345-7726, at the CWSO office located inside the Smith Scarabocchio Art Museum, or at the door.
The CWSO, comprising 65 professional musicians from central Wisconsin, has been a cornerstone of the region’s arts and cultural scene for 75 years. The orchestra’s mission is “to enrich, engage and educate through the power and performance of live music.”
