The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra has announced a new young artists competition.

The Betty Frost Jenkins Young Artist Concerto Competition will now be held on an annual basis, according to a new release from CWSO.

Young musicians in grades 9-12 (or equivalent) during the 2018-19 school year are invited to apply for the competition, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The winner of the competition will receive a $500 cash scholarship made possible through the Betty Frost Jenkins Young Artist Concerto Competition Fund and will perform as the featured soloist with the CWSO during concerts held Dec. 1-2 under the direction of Dr. Patrick Miles.

Applicants, or their primary music teacher, must reside within the following geographical boundaries: Highway 2/Michigan (north), Highway 21 (south), Highway 13 (west), and Highway 45 (east).

Application and complete rules can be found on the CWSO’s website (cwso.org/events), and are due by July 13. Contact the CWSO office by email ([email protected]) or phone (715-345-7726) for more information.

Now in its 70th season, the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra is affiliated with the College of Fine Arts and Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The competition is supported in part by the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts. Its mission of the competition is to provide a high-quality performance experience for the finest young musicians from central Wisconsin and to assist them in pursuing advanced study.
