CREATE seeks street musicians for planned day of downtown music

By Patrick Lynn

In partnership with numerous local music organizations, CREATE Portage County has organized a special evening of music in downtown Stevens Point.

Make Music Day is already an international day of public performance. In partnership with Heid Music, UWSP’s Aber Suzuki Institute, Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, and help from the public, local performances will take place 6-8 p.m. on June 21.

CREATE has identified 12 locations in the Downtown District where musicians and vocalists will perform in alleys, outside businesses, at bus stops, and vacant spaces. Jam sessions are “highly encouraged,” CREATE said in a press release, adding that Heid Music will provide easy-to-master instruments for public use during the event.

Musicians interested in claiming a busking space should register by Monday, June 14 at www.createportagecounty.org.

The Aber Suzuki Center and American Suzuki Institute, Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra will also offer showcase performances on the Mathias Mitchell Public Square.
