County launches online reporting form mask concerns

Portage Co. Health and Human Services on Tuesday unveiled a reporting system for residents with “masking concerns” under Gov. Tony Evers’ Emergency Order #1.
Under the order, county governments are required to create a process for potential enforcement, which includes an online reporting form.
According to a memo from Ray Przybelski, director of the county’s health department, the electronic form also provides the public with a place for residents to “share their concerns, and allows our public health professionals to follow-up when time allows,” as the department is operating with a limited capacity.
The dept. has hired additional staff members, Przybelski said, but it takes time to train them properly.
“We ask that you have patience as we continue to hire and train new people to maintain capacity to process test data, conduct contract tracing, and assisting the community with our responses to COVID-19,” he said.
No individual is required to give a reason for not wearing a mask, Przybelski said, but if “enforcement of the order is needed or recommended, those cases may be sent to the District Attorney’s office for review.”
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office will respond to reports or complaints from a business owner,
manager, or other premises owner who has requested that any individual leave the premises for failing to comply with the face-covering mandate as it relates to that specific premises, Przybelski said.
“Wearing a face covering is a simple act of kindness and is one of the most effective ways to limit the spread of COVID-19 and save lives,” he said. “This is the reason you see face masks worn by our healthcare professionals, law enforcement, members of the military, and why we wear ours. We hope that you will wear yours too.”
Residents are asked to not call law enforcement to report people not wearing masks.
