PLOVER — The 17th annual “Cops-N-Bobbers” fishing event will return to Lake Pacawa Park on Saturday, June 6, offering a free, family-oriented day focused on fishing and community connection.

Organized by Portage County law enforcement in partnership with the Stevens Point Elks Lodge #641, the event brings together officers and volunteers from multiple agencies to mentor young anglers and engage with local families.

The program was founded in 2008 by Portage County Deputy Eric Koepsell and Plover Police Officer Seth Pionke, who set out to introduce children to fishing while building positive relationships between youth and law enforcement.

Officers from the Plover Police Department, Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, UW-Stevens Point Police, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are expected to participate. Volunteers will assist with fishing instruction, registration, meal service, and event operations.

The event is open to children ages 3 to 15, who must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Organizers say the program encourages outdoor recreation while strengthening family bonds and community ties.

Activities begin with registration at 8:30 a.m., followed by a catch-and-release fishing tournament from 9 to 11 a.m. Lunch and prizes will be provided from 11 a.m. to noon.

The event will be held at Lake Pacawa Park, 2831 Maple Drive in Plover.

Registration is available through the Plover Police Department Facebook page, the Portage County Law Enforcement “Cops-N-Bobbers” Facebook page, or online at https://forms.gle/PGyiRzq8dZfe6dJk6.

The event coincides with Wisconsin’s Free Fishing Weekend, so no fishing license is required. Bait and equipment will be provided, though participants may bring their own gear. Children who register in advance will receive a free T-shirt.
