Room tax grant application period ends Dec. 1

Metro Wire Staff

The Stevens Point Tourism Commission will accept applications for tourism grants through Friday, Dec. 1.

The commission was created in 2016 under a state law requiring municipalities to create a tourism commission to handle all room tax funds. Money is used to generate additional tourism dollars in the community.

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations meetings 501 (c)(3) status or to local service and civic groups. According to a news release from the Stevens Point Parks Department, priority will be given to projects or programs that will both attract visitors to the community and serve existing residents.

Under a major change from previous years, no paper applications will be available. Guidelines and proposal forms are only available under the “Tourism” heading online at StevensPoint.com/forms.

All completed proposals must be returned by 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 1.
