Stevens Point — As No Mow May concludes, the city of Stevens Point reminds participants to mow their lawns to less than 9 inches and dispose of grass clippings by June 4.

The Yard Waste Drop-Off site at 100 Sixth Avenue will extend its hours from June 3-7, operating from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The site will also be open on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The drop-off site is for residential use only and requires proof of city residency. Accepted materials include leaves, grass clippings, plant stalks, flowers, twigs/sticks, and brush up to six inches in diameter.

The city encourages residents to mulch grass clippings, which benefits lawns by returning nutrients to the soil.

No Mow May is a conservation initiative encouraging homeowners to refrain from mowing their lawns during May. Allowing the grass to grow longer and flowers to bloom provides essential food sources and habitats for pollinators like bees and butterflies, which are crucial for the environment and agriculture.
