City officials are now taking letters of interest from qualified applicants to fill a pending vacancy in the city clerk’s office.
City Clerk John Moe announced on Monday he was stepping down from his role after 13 years, with about two-and-a-half years remaining in his term. His last day is Sept. 21.
The position will be filled by mayoral appointment under city ordinance. According to Mayor Mike Wiza, the spot will be filled on an interim basis through the spring election, but the interim clerk will be eligible to run for the elected position at that time.
Qualified applicants must be over the age of 18, a resident of Stevens Point and have no felony convictions on their record. The clerk is responsible for the publication, filing, indexing, and safeguarding of all proceedings of the common council; overseeing elections; issuing licenses; and administering oaths of office.
The 2018 annual salary for the city clerk is $66,190.
Anyone who meets the qualifications and is interested should submit a cover letter, including why they are interested in the position and any credentials they have, to the Stevens Point Personnel Office, 1515 Strongs Ave., by 4 p.m. on Sept. 25.
