City opens Iverson Park winter sports areas

Stevens Point has opened its winter sports area for the 2022 season.

The city operates ice rinks at Iverson and Goerke parks, as well as an ice rink in the Mathias Mitchell Public Square in downtown Stevens Point.

Skate rentals are available in the Goerke warming house, or a Northward Peddle & Paddle inside Iverson Park. Skate rentals and a warming house are not available downtown, although there are several restaurants on and near the Square.

Iverson is also home to the city’s popular sledding hills. The park staff maintains three sled/saucer runs, one designated snowboard run, and one run designated for young children six and under. The park also has two 300-foot toboggan slides and more than three miles of snowshoe trails.

Winter sports areas close when the air temperature/wind chill is -15 degrees or colder.

The warming house is Iverson Park is open Fridays 6-9 p.m., Saturdays noon to 8 p.m., and Sundays noon to 5 p.m.

Goerke Park’s warming house is open on Fridays from 5-9 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 8 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
