Cassandra Crystal Larsen, 65

Cassandra Crystal Larsen, née Marcussen, of Stevens Point and formerly of Sturgeon Bay, passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2025, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was 65.

Cassandra was born Dec. 16, 1959, at Andrews Air Force Base in Camp Springs, Maryland, the daughter of the late Clarence Marcussen and Mary Ann (née) Peot. As a young girl, her family moved to Sturgeon Bay, where she grew up and spent most of her adult life. She attended local schools and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1978.

Following high school, Cassandra married and started a family. Though the marriage later ended in divorce, she was a dedicated homemaker. On May 12, 1990, she married Tobin Larsen, whom she had known since childhood as her older brother Claude’s best friend. Though he had her heart since high school, the timing wasn’t right until their marriage.

Cassandra was proud of every role she played—wife, mom, aunt, and eventually grandma, great-aunt, and bonus grandma. She believed the way to anyone’s heart was through their stomach and loved to cook for those she loved most. From her infamous potato salad, a family favorite, to the 10 buckets of Christmas goodies she delivered each year, Cassandra brought joy through her food. Even when she committed to cutting back, eight buckets still showed up.

She was a voracious reader and had a love for lighthouses, sailboats, butterflies, and the color blue. A skilled cribbage player, she won countless games and taught many others how to play. She also enjoyed gardening, shopping—especially strolling every aisle—and spending time with loved ones. Her favorite pastime, however, was simply chatting. She was known for being long-winded and for keeping in touch through visits, calls, and texts. Her knack for conversation may have contributed to her being famously late, a trait she shared with her beloved sister Cindy.

After raising her own children, Cassandra spent several years caring for her nephew and great-nephew. She especially cherished time with her grandchildren, including her newest grandson, Everett, who brought her endless joy.

She is survived by her husband, Tobin Larsen of Stevens Point; her daughter, Jennie Larsen-Fritcher (Ruston Fritcher) of Schofield, and their daughter, Madalyn Fritcher; her sons, Jeff Thunander (Lori Leonte) of Bremen, Germany; Steven Thunander of Sun Prairie; Thomas Larsen of Schofield; and Timothy Larsen (Alyssa Mlodik) of Plover, and their son, Everett Larsen.

She is further survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Cathy and Country Kenley, and Corley and Nathan Welch; her brothers-in-law, Chris Larsen (Connie) and Ben Larsen; her sister-in-law, Susan Howk (Neil); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and bonus grandchildren.

Cassandra was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Cynthia Bruss and Candy Ehnert; her brother, Claude Marcussen; and her brother-in-law, Charles Bruss.

The family extends a special thank you to the Aspirus Wausau Hospital Medical/Surgical ICU staff for their efforts to save Cassandra’s life and for the compassionate care provided to her family. Gratitude is also extended to the staff at Aspirus Stevens Point for the excellent care given to Cassandra during her recent and past visits.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2025, at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A family-provided meal will follow.
