‘May the Forest Be With You’ in May

For the Metro Wire

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Schmeeckle Reserve will host two events in May.

The 2018 Spring Candlelight Hike Festival will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the reserve’s Visitor Center, 2419 North Point Dr., Stevens Point. Open to the public, the event has a suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family.

This year’s hike, themed “May The Forest Be With You,” includes campfire presentations at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Follow a torch-lit path around the reserve and Lake Joanis, and enjoy snacks, crafts, discovery stations and a scavenger hunt. The Browse Shop will be open as well.

The reserve will host its last public program of the semester, “The Wetland’s Air Force,” from 6-7 p.m. Monday, May 7. Led by a UW-Stevens Point student at the Visitors Center, the program explores the lives of dragonflies and damselflies as they protect the skies of the reserve’s wetlands. Dress for the weather.
