Campos appointed to Educational Services Committee after 5–3 vote

STEVENS POINT — The Stevens Point Area Public School Board on Nov. 10 approved Miguel Campos as the new citizen member of the district’s Educational Services Committee.

The appointment passed 5–3, with Margaret Erler, Theodore Kowalski, James Lepak, Gee Pope, and Alex Sommers voting in favor. Marne Mercer, Liz Potter-Nelson, and Jeremy Lebrick voted against. Board member Jen Bushman was absent.

According to a memo from Pope, who chairs the committee, the vacancy was created in September when a previous citizen appointee resigned.

The district announced the opening online and shared it with local media, accepting applications until Oct. 17.

Pope said three applications were received, though district records do not identify the other applicants.

Applications were evaluated using a selection rubric, and the top candidates were interviewed by the full committee on Nov. 3. Committee members then scored the finalists individually before recommending Campos to the full board.

Campus previously ran an unsuccessful bid for the school board in 2022.
