Rosholt woman dies, two injured, in Saturday crash

ALBAN — A 68-year-old woman from Rosholt died Saturday in a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 66 near St. Adalberts Road, according to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency crews received a report of the crash at 12:56 p.m. Initial investigations revealed the woman was driving a sedan southbound on County Highway I when she failed to yield at a stop sign before crossing Hwy. 66 toward St. Adalberts Road.
Her vehicle collided with a westbound SUV, partially blocking both lanes of the highway for several hours.
The driver of the sedan, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV’s occupants, a 74-year-old man, and a 77-year-old woman, also from Rosholt, were taken to Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital with minor injuries.
Emergency crews from Portage County Ambulance, Rosholt EMS, the Rosholt Fire Department, and the Portage County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.
The Amherst Fire Department’s Traffic Incident Management (TIM) team and the Portage County Highway Department helped reroute traffic while the Wisconsin State Patrol conducted a technical crash investigation.
The crash remains under investigation. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.
