STEVENS POINT — The Stevens Point Police Department has issued a public notice regarding the upcoming release of Cody J. Patterson, 30, a convicted sex offender.

Patterson is scheduled to be released on Sept. 10, 2024, and will reside somewhere in Stevens Point. Lt. Joe Johnson from SPPD said Patterson will be homeless but he had no further details.

Patterson was convicted for several offenses involving teenage victims. In 2010, he provided marijuana and water laced with a substance he claimed was a “date rape” drug to two 13-year-old girls before engaging in sexual intercourse with one of them, despite her repeated objections. Patterson was on probation for that crime in 2011 when he had intercourse with a 15-year-old girl and solicited nude photographs from her. While incarcerated in 2014, Patterson mailed sexually explicit material to a minor female acquaintance, detailing his sexual fantasies.

Upon his release, Patterson will be under the supervision of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) and monitored by probation agents in Portage County. He is also subject to lifetime GPS monitoring and numerous conditions, including no unsupervised contact with minors and no contact with his victims. Additionally, he is prohibited from using drugs and must comply with all sex offender rules.

Patterson’s address and any updates will be available on the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry.

The Stevens Point Police Department released this information under Wisconsin Statute 301.46(2m), which allows law enforcement to notify the public about the release of convicted sex offenders if it is determined that the information will enhance public safety.

Patterson previously caused a stir in 2022 when law enforcement announced a previous release from prison, and that he had denied housing offered by the Department of Corrections and intended to live on the streets in Stevens Point. After state officials stepped in, Patterson was forced to live in a halfway house on Water St.

Authorities caution that any harassment, intimidation, or threats directed at Patterson will not be tolerated.

A request for further information from the Department of Corrections was not immediately returned.
