BREAKING: Former Boy Scout leader arrested for repeat child sexual assault

PLOVER — A Plover man is in jail after police say he admitted to grooming and having sexual contact with a juvenile he met through a Stevens Point Boy Scout pack about 15 years ago.

Steven Lorang, 57, was arrested Monday after an investigation that began in July, when Plover police received information about an alleged sexual assault dating back roughly 15 years.

Detectives spent the following weeks gathering information and interviewing several people identified as potential victims before interviewing Lorang on Aug. 31.

During that interview, police say Lorang admitted to grooming and engaging in sexual activity with a juvenile he met while volunteering with Boy Scout Pack 297 in Stevens Point.

Lorang was arrested and booked into the Portage County Jail.

Police have referred the case to the Portage County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child, child enticement, repeated sexual assault of the same child and sexual assault of a child by a person who volunteers with children.

Lorang is scheduled for a bond hearing Wednesday, Sept. 2, in Portage County Circuit Court.
