Boys, girls track compete in conference invite

The SPASH boys track team outdistanced the field to bring home top honors in the 2018 Wisconsin Valley Conference Boy’s and Girl’s Track and Field invitational Tuesday night at the UWSP indoor track.

SPASH rolled up 213.33 points. D. C. Everest finished a distant second with 122 and Marshfield scored 89 points to take third. Rounding out the field were Wisconsin Rapids (77), Wausau West (70.33), Merrill (32.33), and Wausau East (15).

Trent Hamerski and John Hyland were double winners for the Panthers with Hamerski winning the 60 meter dash (6.80) and the long jump (22-07.75. Hyland, headed to Marquette University in the fall, took first in the 1600 meter run (4:38.31) and the 3200 meter (10:12.92).

Other first place finishes went to Colton Kizewski in the 200m dash, Nolan Metz in the 400m dash, Liam Belson in the 800m run, Tom Hatton in the 60m hurdles, the 4x200m relay ( Alex Karpinski, Evan Brocken, Elliot Sankey, Gabe Rodriguez), the 4x400m relay ( Sankey, Brocken, Metz, Belson, and Connor Pliska in the high jump.

The SPASH girls put 137 points on the board to finish second behind Wausau West (139.50).
