Boys & Girls Club to debut youth films at local cinema
STEVENS POINT – Budding young filmmakers from the Boys & Girls Club of Portage County will take center stage this month as their original films debut at the group’s first-ever Filmmakers Club Film Festival.
The event will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, at Rogers Cinema, 2725 Church St. Admission is free and open to the public.
The festival will showcase short films created by Club members participating in the Filmmakers Club program, a hands-on initiative that guides youth through every step of video production—from brainstorming and scriptwriting to directing and filming. Led by program leader Aubin Sprecher, the club offers participants a chance to build storytelling skills, boost self-confidence and collaborate in a supportive environment.
Attendees can expect a morning of creativity, popcorn, and on-screen excitement. Guests will receive complimentary stickers and have the opportunity to purchase limited-edition Filmmakers Club t-shirts.
The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County serves more than 2,000 youth across 11 locations, including Stevens Point, Plover, Junction City, Rosholt, Amherst, and Almond/Bancroft.
